They tend to argue over pedantic details. It's how she figured him out in the first place. It doesn't matter whether she likes him or not, all that matters is that she wants whatever it is he's hiding.

She knows enough to make a lot of problems and hasn't, because she understands they're on the same side. It's refreshing, honestly.

Either of them could make the other's lives considerably harder by selling them out, but they don't. They both want to see what they'll do next, at least.

Personality:

Intelligent. Aelwyn is, in her words and in the words of nearly everyone around her, a genius. At age 18 she was at the top of her class at Hudol, a school for arcane prodigies to begin with, but her actual intelligence is better showcased by her extra-curricular activities, notably her work for the conspiracy in 1. Killing one of the most powerful wizards of the past millenia by designing her own spell that would allow her to sink a ship with just a scrap of wood from it's hull. 2. Manipulating her sister into unknowingly following their plan 3. Getting caught intentionally and then placing a trap within her own mind so that she could retroactively erase all her memories to a certain point. The way she uses her talents is debatable but she is extremely talented.

Callous. Even after her redemption arc, Aelwyn is still struggling with the concept of caring about people's wellbeing if they are not right in front of her and someone she knows. She sorts people in her head based on how important they are to her or to her sister, so her compassion for strangers is practically nonexistent. When confronted on participating in the kidnapping and forced confinement of seven teenaged girls, some of which were trapped for over a year, her reaction is to simply shrug and say "Well, they were alive in the end, weren't they?" She's deeply selfish and she doesn't really see it as the flaw everyone else seems to.

Cowardly. Aelwyn's outward confidence and unshakable smug demeanor is ultimately a cover for her deep fear and self loathing. She's worried if she lets down her guard at any second, the people around her will use it as an opportunity to hurt her. She keeps her head down and lets tyranny and abuse happen out of fear that it'll reach her too. She's gotten better at this, a little, since Adaine quite literally crawled inside her mindscape and saw the deep insecurity and fear, and that Aelwyn did genuinely love her despite everything and isn't as heartless as she can appear. Adaine, in turn, eventually reached her by telling her that she doesn't have to put on a front or cover her flaws to earn her love, and that she loves her too despite the horrible things she's done. But before that, the family structure involved their parents giving Aelwyn anything she could want and more (besides genuine unconditional affection or relief from the overwhelming pressure they put on her) while sneering at Adaine for daring to ask. She was afraid that if she spoke up in Adaine's defence, the roles would be reversed, and she would be the scapegoat instead.

Powers and Abilities: Aelwyn is a DND wizard of the 14th level. Her specialty is Abjuration, which is about creating shields, wards, bolstering defence and also in blocking other people's abilities. She has a passive shield around her so long as she's actually in combat, that means that any attack against her has to get past her barrier of about 33 healthpoints, which in terms of durability is about equivalent to smashing down a wooden wall. She is also able to design spells quite effectively, and will set about doing this pretty quickly on arrival so she can better adapt to the setting.

ATTITUDE: You can tell two things about Aelwyn within the first few moments of a conversation. 1. She thinks she’s hot shit, and 2. She went to what is essentially Fantasy Harvard but for elves. She acts in a way that suggests complete and utter confidence in herself and in her abilities, and often comes across as snide or condescending regardless of her intentions.

QUIRKS: She has a tendency to call people dear, darling, kid or kiddo. She doesn’t really realise she’s doing it but she’s copying Kalina, the demon that latched itself onto her when she was about 14.

☾ BACKGROUND

ORIGINS: She’s from the Fallinese city of Stellemere. Which is coincidentally the capital, but she had to move around a lot even before her dad moved to Solace to become the Elven Ambassador, so she doesn’t really have anywhere she’d consider a hometown.

FAMILY: Her parents, Angwyn and Arianwen Abernant are both two sides of the same coin that abused and produced the trainwreck that is Aelwyn and her sister, Adaine Abernant. Aelwyn and Adaine have a very complicated relationship, but it’s the only one in the family that has any genuine affection.

OCCUPATION: Aelwyn was a full-time student and a part-time drug dealer back home. And by student I mean she went to a school for snooty elven wizards that her parents worked at and she was top of the entire school in terms of academic and arcane performance. And by drug dealer I mean she dealt exclusively to creeps who were too widely disliked to know anyone who wasn’t her so she just charged them ridiculous amounts of money for it. She also wasn’t invited to any of the larger Hudol parties because everyone hated her.

BLURB: Aelwyn Abernant is the firstborn daughter to a prominent Elven political family, and was raised with great expectations resting on her shoulders that she had to meet. As she continued to excel, the expectations continued to grow and the entire time she knew that any sign of failure would lead to her parents retracting any affection or love that she might have already earned. As a result, when they turned on her younger sister and frequently treated her like a second-class citizen, Aelwyn often found herself participating out of a paralyzing fear of her parents treating her the way they treat Adaine. The pressures of this and the self hatred of being unable to summon the bravery required to actually take care of her baby sister culminated in her getting involved in a destructive plot that would see the dragon, Kalvaxus, Emperor of the Red Wastes ruling over the entire continent again. She didn’t believe they’d win, and actively sabotaged Kalvaxus by pointing her sister towards clues to find him, all she desired was to break the image of perfection that had been forced upon her.

CLASS: Wizard

WEAPONS: A gun, her casting focus (a small crystal amulet).

INVENTORY: Her spellbook, several weapons she has stashed, a supply of drugs and alcohol to sell on.

SKILLS: Her magic is centred around protective wards and shields, so she’s very good at protecting herself and others. She does however have a lot of abilities that are focused on combat and can easily kill most people with the snap of a finger if given free reign to use her powers. Even beyond that, she knows how to develop her own spells when given enough time, and was able to use that to her advantage to create one tailor made to killing one of the most powerful Wizards in her world.

Her other skills include manipulation, schmoozing, business, research, science, computer science, and drug-dealing.

IN CHARACTER

PHYSICAL AFFECTION: Physical (or emotional) affection weirds Aelwyn out, but from a partner that she actually likes, she'll likely melt and fall apart. Casual affection does make her uncomfortable for the most part, as it's not something she's ever really experienced.
PHYSICAL VIOLENCE: Aelwyn's specialty is in defending herself from physical harm, and will respond to any attempts by shielding herself first and foremost. It's a fairly regular occurrence when you're a DND wizard with a DND wizard younger sister who casts spells at you when she's mad, so she won't take it too personally.
RELATIONSHIPS: Aelwyn has never in her life had anything close to a normal romantic relationship, primarily because that involves letting down her guard which... yeah, she's not so good at. Romantic relationships are something that will take a lot of work on her end, and often won't be smooth. More casual relationships are more what she’s prone to. She tends to lean F/F romantically, but I'm up for anything with the right chemistry.
PSYCHIC & PSIONIC INFORMATION: One of the many spells she has access to does allow her to read people’s surface thoughts, and plunge deeper into their consciousness if they let her. Other than that, there’s nothing really to be said here.
MAGICAL INFORMATION: As a wizard, Aelwyn has a whole host of spells at her disposal. She specialises in shields and barriers, but she’s also very prone to creating her own spells for specific tasks, including sinking ships and detecting virgins. She is on a more middling scale in terms of power, but that does mean she can kill the vast majority of people without a second thought. MEDICAL INFORMATION: Aelwyn has been kept in a large orb for six months, with no opportunity to stretch, sleep or heal. Her limbs are suitably atrophied, though they were able to heal her enough that she can still function physically, but she’s absolutely not having a great time on a medical level. Other than that, she has a history of alcoholism and drug abuse, though again. Kept in an orb for six months.

Canon: Dimension 20: Fantasy High

Canon point: After episode 10 of Fantasy High: Sophomore Year. She’s just escaped from high security elven prison where she had been tortured by her father and the government for six months following her arrest. Her sister showed up, broke her out, activated a spell Aelwyn had implanted in her brain that allowed her to revert to an earlier stage and erase any memory of her confinement. After a confusing confrontation with her sister, she’s confronted by Kalina who directs her to run away from the party and meet her mother on the edges of the Nightmare King’s forest. Terrified, humiliated, alone, she runs away and lands where her mother is waiting with another crony. The second that she enters the first with her mother after brutally murdering the crony as a sacrifice, she ends up here.

History: Inside The Dangerous Mind Of Aelwyn Abernant. Notably, my version of Aelwyn had a brief affair with a girl named Penelope Everpetal, who mostly used her as a rebound despite Aelwyn developing feelings for her. Penelope was a very manipulative schemer who wanted to basically rule the world as an eternal prom queen, showered with attention and riches at all times. She died a few weeks after Aelwyn’s initial arrest.

Personality:
Controlled. Aelwyn puts forward a version of herself built to make her seem like she's always in control, smiling and confident in a way that suggests that she knows her own abilities and that she knows something you don't.

Callous. She doesn't particularly care about anyone except her sister, and will thoughtlessly sacrifice just about anyone else to make herself feel less afraid.

Charming. Aelwyn is a natural schmoozer. She knows how to wheedle things out of people and who to suck up to and who to put down. In terms of social situations she's mastered putting herself in a beneficial situation as often as possible.

Cunning. She was able to start a war between two major continental powers, murdering one of the most powerful wizards there ever has been, and inventing a unique spell to reverse the effects of six months of torture. This girl is resourceful.

Cowardly. Aelwyn is terrified of a lot of things. Most notably her parents, Kalina, and being completely defenceless. All of her snide outer shell comes from a deep terror that if she shows even a moment of unregulated weakness, she will be discarded and treated like a waste of life in the same way that her sister was.

Suitability: Aelwyn is unlikely to leave the first structured organization she’s run into because fundamentally she knows she probably can’t make it on her own in this new world, and she doesn’t want to risk being sniped. Over time, she’s more likely to develop an actual fascination in understanding the entities, how they work, what drives people to them, and the powers that they bring to those that are touched by them. She is fundamentally very unlikely to act on any moral ideas of saving the world or even saving people because her mindset is very steeped in believing that that will probably just happen on it’s own without her input, given that she comes from a DND universe where the plot revolves around bands of heroes saving the world from an apocalyptic threat every few years.

Powers/Abilities: Aelwyn is a very powerful wizard. She dabbles in many classes and many practices, though her specialty is Abjuration, a school all about protecting herself. She does this by creating arcane shields around herself, reflecting other people powers back at them, or making herself ethereal. Beyond that, she is able to create elemental constructs of water, earth, fire and air, encode basic personalities onto them and then send them to kill people for her. She can also teleport. Another example of a spell she manages to do is to sink a ship thousands of miles away within the confines of her bedroom by taking a scrap of it’s wood and making a model out of it and casting a high-power experimental spell she developed. It’s… hard to pin down a specific entity for her abilities.

Entity Affinity:

THE DESOLATION: While Aelwyn's actual personal fears are much closer to the Lonely or the Web, the fear and pain that she inflicts on others very much comes from taking everything that they hold dear and destroying it. Notable examples include: Murdering the cultural chosen one of her people and an entire cruise ship full of innocent people to get to her, causing a widespread despair across all of elven-kind, so her sister could take said chosen one's place as the Oracle.
She also participated in the kidnapping of seven innocent girls, and kidnapped two of them directly, so that they could be dragged off to be human sacrifices to bring about a ritual that would start a war between her nation and the nation that her father moved to as the elven ambassador, ruining her family's reputation irrevocably.
She also burned one of their houses to the ground, despite her dad being in financial hardship.

Inventory: She has her basic spellcasting gear and not much else, her spellbook, a very basic wand used for channelling magic, and clothing for a particularly murky forest.
